A man who spiked sweets with sedative and gave them to children at a summer camp in the region has confessed to sexual crimes against two young males who were nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight children and an older person became sick at the location in the summer month.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the judicial center on Friday.
Nevertheless, he denied a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
Ruben was kept in jail prior to a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Candy game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined the criminal behavior to the court.
She stated his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a summer camp which he operated.
The man played a "treat game" with the minors, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to eat sweets "rapidly".
She stated to the judge Ruben had conducted this practice with the children "over an extended period", and minors had previously become sick the next day.
She said the man had been able to explain this for many years as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had concerns in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "This year his stepchild had suspicions about what was going on, with valid cause.
"They resolved" to investigate in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel stated materials including infant oil, Vaseline and injection devices were located, and his family member contacted the authorities about his worries.
She stated the defendant continued to conduct the "treat game" with six youngsters that night - that Saturday - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"Authorities" had not responded by that point," she stated further.
The oversight body, the investigative body, previously told that it was investigating the police response of the events.
The prosecutor stated the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the stepson notified the authorities again.
She said the man then conducted the "candy game" in a space of five youngsters.
